Fairytale Photography | Cosplay Photographer in Didsbury

In an enchanted forest just West of Didsbury, AB hides a secret location.  If you stand very still you can hear the tinkling of tiny bells on little feet, smell the unmistakable scent of mint leaves and maybe … just maybe see a beautiful fairy flitting through the sun drenched fields.

Who doesn’t love a good fairy tale? The knight in shining armor that rescues a damsel in distress. Or a beautiful maiden that pushes past the gruff exterior of a devilishly handsome brute, only to discover he has a tender side.  Open the door to your imagination and step into the intriguing world of Cosplay.

Here at the Elegant Images studios, we had a chance to jump head first into this fantastic world of fantasy with the stunning Rose Chantal.  Rose is no stranger to Cosplay or the arts.  In our photo session with her, Rose helped us gently push the boundaries of this area of make believe.

Through excellent costuming, subtle props and a bit of imagination Shane & Rose were able to construct a set of breathtaking images, that feel like you have stepped into a secret enchanted world.

Mother & Daughter Portrait Session

Mother & Daughter Portrait Session

A Glamorous Mother & Daughter Portrait Session

With Wendy & Amanda from Didsbury, AB

There is something so beautiful about photographing a Mother with her Daughter; the glow of motherly pride, the shared tender smiles and the genuine bursts of laughter.

A couple of weeks back, Amanda contacted us.  Her goal was to create an irreplaceable birthday present for her mom, Wendy. Amanda wanted to give her mom the unique gift of seeing herself through the eyes of her husband, her children and her grandchildren.  To show her the beauty they see EVERYDAY…  inside and out.

With that in mind, we set out to create a full-blown luxury experience for Amanda & Wendy.  We called in our team of hair & make-up artists, ordered the champagne & chocolate dipped strawberries and made sure our led photographer was primed and ready to go

Their day began with being pampered!  Nibbling on a few goodies, sipping wine and having their hair and make-up done like a movie star.

We spent the hour getting to know them better. We learned that Wendy is an avid motorcyclist and Amanda is a local artist that uses high voltage electricity to create art on wood. (check out her Facebook page @letyourarcflow)

A couple of times throughout the shoot, Shane and I caught ourselves commenting to each other about how relaxed the day felt.  As he clicked away, we could see their initial shyness melting away. There was no fuss or frenzy, just a happy playfulness attitude that surfaced.  They coordinated outfits and colors, recommended a lipstick change or foundation touch up, and when they were asked lean into the camera; the ladies would strategically cocked an eyebrow and burst into melodious laughter.

Toward the end of their session, the two strong men in their lives arrived to join in the fun.  We were thrilled to see Wendy’s husband Doug carrying a beautiful bouquet of flowers for the birthday girl and a few selected pieces from their favorite pastime, tucked under his arm.

Seriously, what photographer could resist taking a couple of shots of this adventurous couple in their Motorcycle Leathers?

Even Tom, Amanda’s fiancee was sweep into playful spirit of the day. He was even willing to venture outside in minus 25 degree weather to have a few photos taken with the horses and meet our pet turkey. It was compelling to watch the uncomplicated love and pride these gentlemen had for these ladies.

Shane and I are honoured to spend a few hours photographing this wonderful group of people.  I believe the best thing we can give each other is the gift of time. Time spent making memories, and having those moments captured for all time.

If you would like us to create a luxury experience, complete with heirloom portraits with your mom, contact us today.  It’s not just the portraits you walk away with, but the memory of the time you’ve spent together.

A big thank you to our team! Margaret Rohanchuk – Makeup artist & Caitlan Hunter – Hair stylist. Thanks ladies fantastic job!

Out of the 50 breathtaking images Shane submitted, a number of them landed in the top 10%, 20% and 30% of all photos submitted.  It is an incredible honor to be named on such an illustrious list, considering the fierce competition he faced in all categories.

Great Grey in the snow

The Shoot & Share photo contest is billed as “The World’s Fairest Photo Contest.”  Competitors can enter up to 50 photos in 25 different categories; pitting their talent and skills against 75,000+ exhibitors in over 150 different countries.  There is a whole host of prizes that can be won, ranging from free memberships, free software, workshops, even a cash prize or two.

This photo contest is unique in that each photo is displayed an equal number of times during the entire competition. The photographer’s name is never displayed, ensuring that each photo will be judged on its own merits.  This method of blind judging helps level the playing field for all competitors, so that a well-known artist cannot rally support from his/ her current followers or via social media.

But the best part has to be that voting is open to everyone.  Shane’s top images were selected by people just like you. Thanks to everyone that voted Shane will be receiving a Badge for his 19th place finish and the acknowledgement of a job well done.

We would like to congratulate this year’s winners, and give a hardy slap on the back to all the other participants.  We know how hard it is to put yourself out there and compete on such a grand scale.  Magnificent work everybody! We will see you all again next year!

Mr. & Mrs. Claus and all their little friends at the North Pole have a philosophy, that every day is a gift and it should be Opened…Celebrated…and Enjoyed! I think a little bit of their holiday spirit seems to be rubbing off on us; because this year we decided to do a little gift giving of our own & help spread some Christmas cheer.

Wedding Day moments that capture my Heart – Love| Marriage|Happily Ever After

Wedding Day moments that capture my Heart – Love| Marriage|Happily Ever After

A couple of really exciting things happened to us this past weekend.   The first being that we were fortunate enough to attend & photograph a good friend’s wedding.  We love photographing weddings. For us as photographer’s it is like watching a unique and wonderful movie play out on the back of our camera’s viewfinder.

Kiss the Groom

Yes is it always great to see the people involved transform from their regular Cinderella clothes into some of the most stylized GQ models on the planet.

However for me, it is about trying to capture those special moments between the happy couple, their friends and loved ones.  There are moments that happen on a wedding day that make my heart sing.  Like seeing a Grandmother place a gentle hand on the small of the bride’s back, lean in close to whisper, “You are beautiful Sweetheart.”

Family Wedding Photo Grandma and Bride

Or watching the groomsmen help the groom shake off some of his nerves by goofing around with him in the “Evolution of a Groom.”

Evolution of a Groom

Being able to witness the look on a mother’s face as she watches her radiant daughter prepare for one of the most important day of her life. Her gaze seems to suggest that she has wound the clock back in her mind, to a time when her tiny daughter would spend hours playing dress up & make believe; and here she stands today, a grown-up version of that smiling princess.

But my all-time favorite moment from this wedding was watching the groom gather his beautiful bride into his arms; brush the tears from her cheeks and hold her after she had finished watching a lovely homemade video he had created, just for her.

Nancy & Scot Comforting his crying Bride

All these things remind me that life is not about how many breaths we take, but rather how many moments take our breath away.   I count myself as one of the lucky ones, that is privileged enough to witness many amazing moments like this unfold.  How fortunate am I to do this type of work, where I take pictures so that people may have a round-trip ticket back to a moment that would otherwise be lost.

The other exciting thing that happen to us is ….
